Parents/carers Toolkit
Supporting our children to develop a confident sense of self, while understanding and respecting the identities of others is a vital responsibility for both parents/carers and educators.
Children begin noticing differences as early as six months old which prompts curiosity and questions about their own identity and the identity of others.
Negative stereotypes can emerge as early as 2 ½ years which can influence how children perceive themselves and others.
The toolkit in the link below is designed to empower parents/carers in guiding your child through the complexities of identity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, helping them to understand and feel confident in their own identities as well as having compassion for the identities around them.
A range of introductory resources are available which will provide parents/carers with the opportunity to deepen your understanding further via websites, podcasts, articles, reading lists and links to helpful communities.
Some of the topics covered include autism, gender stereotypes, neurodiversity, raising children in a multicultural world, building resilience, fostering cultural awareness, transgender teens and families in transition, and more.
